Petris: An Agile Experience ReportThe product development cycle is, by nature, a challenging task to tackle especially when considering the aggressive schedules and domain complexity issues that are both common to this task. Added to this, is the issue of a development team that is geographically dispersed, working across a number of different time zones. Careful considerations in process model must be made to ensure the successful release of a product on time and under budget. In order to avoid the pitfalls associated with the obstacles mentioned above, Petris adopted the Agile Software Development Process. The Agile process offers the flexibility required to move development, along with high predictability and the foresight to take proactive measures to avoid problems. The Petris team would like to share their experience with the agile process, practical insights and process customization/extension that helped them to successfully deliver two commercial products in six months.
Prakash Roopani, Development Manager, is responsible for the management of the Petris’ Operations Center product development team. Prakash is currently responsible for delivering the next generation of the Operations Center product. Prakash has over 20 years of experience in various disciplines such as software development, project management, finance and marketing. Prior to joining Petris, he was the senior software development manager at Landmark Graphics. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Houston. Shaji John, Senior Technical Architect, is responsible for solution design and architecture for Petris’ Operations Center product. He is currently the lead architect on the next generation of the Operations Center product. Shaji has over 10 years of IT experience. Prior to joining Petris, he was the Technical Architect for Infosys Technologies working with their E&P customers. He was involved in architecting, designing and developing solutions leveraging .NET technologies on several projects. He has worked on large scale software development projects executed from multiple locations across globe. He is well versed with CMM, Agile/SCRUM and other quality and Project Management tools/processes. Shaji has a Bachelor’s degree in Production Engineering from University of Calicut, India and is a Microsoft Certified Professional on .Net application development and certified in Oil Industry basics under Oxford Princeton program. Sejal Desai, Quality Assurance Specialist, is responsible for validating and testing of Petris’ Operations Center product. She is currently the QA specialist on the next generation of the Operations Center product responsible for developing strategic test plans and co-ordinate testing activities. Sejal has over 5 years of experience in Engineering Field and IT. Prior to joining Petris, Mrs. Desai was the Lead Quality Assurance Tester for Hewlett Packard working with their partner based web stores. She was involved in testing activities for web stores and coordinating automated testing efforts with HP offshore teams. She was also responsible for leading performance testing efforts on several projects at Hewlett Packard. Sejal has a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from University of Mumbai, India and is QAI Certified Software Tester. For more information about Petris please vist: Petris Technology.
